MCP
Possible nowModel Context Protocol
A standard control panel that can tell an AI what a connected system can do and how to use it.
The labels and controls on the enormous automatic milking machine.
AN IDEAS SHED PROJECT
CowBridge is where The Ideas Shed builds and keeps reusable ways for its Cows, sites and software to talk to other systems — and to each other.
The practical shared workshop and catalogue behind those connections. Build the bridge once. Let the Shed reuse it.
WHY IT EXISTS
A Cow may know exactly what needs doing. CowBridge develops the shared keys, buttons and connection patterns that let her reach the right software safely.
Prove a useful bridge once, keep its permissions honest, and let multiple Ideas Shed products reuse it instead of rebuilding it.
A SIMPLE EXAMPLE
Marcus asks Cow One. Cow One understands the question.
To answer properly, she needs a safe way to read Cow Console.
The bridge reaches the right information and brings it back.
CowBridge is not the intelligence. It is how the intelligence reaches what it needs.
WHAT COWBRIDGE EXPLORES
These are useful building ideas, not a vocabulary exam. The human should not have to care about curly brackets.
Model Context Protocol
A standard control panel that can tell an AI what a connected system can do and how to use it.
The labels and controls on the enormous automatic milking machine.
Application Programming Interface
A defined way for one piece of software to ask another for information or to do something.
The service hatch in the side of the machine.
Expected inputs
A description of the information a tool needs — perhaps which project, which date and which person.
The instruction card beside the button.
Structured information
One common machine-readable way for systems to pass organised information to each other.
A tidy little note passed between machines.
Software Development Kit
Useful building parts that save a developer manufacturing everything from raw metal. The Agents SDK helps build agents; the Apps SDK helps build capabilities and interfaces for ChatGPT.
A box of useful building bits.
Capabilities inside ChatGPT
A current way to bring external software capabilities and useful interfaces into ChatGPT. Older systems were often called plugins; that is not the framing we rely on here.
Bring the useful machine to where the Cow is already working.
Extra browser capabilities
A small addition to a browser that can sometimes bridge a gap when a website offers no direct connection.
A small tool belt clipped onto the browser.
Identity and authority
Authentication answers ‘Who is this Cow?’ Permissions answer ‘What is this Cow allowed to do?’ Both matter because a connection should not mean access to everything.
She may have a key to the barn but not the medicine cupboard.
Choosing to act
An AI can choose a connected capability when it needs that capability to complete the task.
The Cow stops explaining the tractor and actually presses the button.
Events sent back
One system can notify another when something happens instead of being repeatedly asked for an update.
The machine rings a bell when something happens.
MCP is especially useful because it can offer a standard way for AI systems to discover and use external capabilities. It does not replace every API, extension or other practical connection. Sometimes the perfectly good gate is better than building another bridge.
BOTH DIRECTIONS
Cow One asks Cow Console for information. A ChatGPT Site asks another service to do something useful.
A service tells Cow Console something changed. An event arrives automatically rather than waiting to be chased.
IDEAS SHED SITES
Ideas Shed software and ChatGPT Sites should increasingly be able to talk to each other where that removes friction — rather than becoming isolated little islands or rebuilding the same plumbing.
Not everything should be tightly coupled. Connect systems when that removes friction. Keep them separate when that keeps things simpler.
THE COWBRIDGE PRINCIPLE
Build once. Reuse across the Shed.
Useful bridges, not pink spaghetti.
We learn enough to understand what matters. We build something when it is actually useful.
Do not build a bridge when there is already a perfectly good gate.
The machinery underneath may be complicated. The human experience should not be.
DOGFOODING
Then — and only then — consider whether someone else might find it useful. CowBridge should not become a giant integration-engineering wormhole. The objective is less friction for humans.
COWBRIDGE TOOL / BRIDGE
The one Pink Cow extension for deliberately moving active browser context into Ideas Shed products.
Send general CHAT / WORK context to Cow Console, send an unlinked conversation to Ideas Bank Inbox, or link and update the exact ChatGPT thread for one waiting Idea.
OPEN THE CANONICAL SOURCE ↗Version 0.5.0 is packaged and code-tested. It remains TESTING until the existing Chrome extension is reloaded and one real link/update round trip is confirmed.
THE REST OF THE SHED
How humans and AI should behave together: truth, judgement, responsibility and what stays human.
How should the Cow behave? What AI can actually do now, what is changing and what The Ideas Shed should build with it.
What can the Cow do?The Ideas Shed’s first AI agent. She works operationally through Cow Console and increasingly needs safe access to other systems.
What needs doing? The central control room and source of truth for what The Ideas Shed is doing.
What is happening in the Shed? How Cows, ChatGPT Sites and Ideas Shed software reach external systems and each other.
How does the Cow reach the machinery? The specialist getting-paid capability: Stripe, Wise, payment readiness and reusable payment components.
How does the money arrive?CowBridge may help connect to a payment service, but payments belong to Cowlect. CowBridge is the broader connection layer; it does not duplicate the getting-paid job.
